Introduction

The President’s Challenge is an annual series of community-based activities initiated by President S R Nathan in 2000. The aims of President’s Challenge are firstly, to increase awareness about how the community can get involved in helping the less fortunate and secondly, to raise funds for the social service sector. Through these, it is envisioned that a more cohesive society would be created. As such, the Challenge aims to convey the message that everyone has a special responsibility to help the less privileged in society and that all Singaporeans can make a difference in their community.

President’s Challenge in Victoria School

Guided by the philosophy, “Be Kind, Be Grateful, Be Engaged” as articulated by our distinguished alumnus, President S.R Nathan, on the ocassion of the school’s 130th Anniversary Celebration, the school aims to engage Victorians in fostering a sense of belonging and civic responsibility by partaking in the President’s Challenge.

Victoria School’s record of participation in the President's Challenge:

In 2005, the school organised a watch design competition where best designs were selected and made into real watches. The watches were sold to raise funds for President’s Challenge.

In 2006, the school compiled artworks from AEP students past and present, ex-AEP teachers and Principal Mr Low Eng Teong. They were printed as a collection of postcards and were sold by all staff and students. The school IT administrator and students also managed the PC website for the 3rd running year.

In 2007, the school received a Special Award from the President for the continued support towards President’s Challenge.

In 2008, the school ensured the smooth handing-over of the President Challenge’s website to Singapore Polytechnic.

In 2009, Victorians put in their best effort to sell 1300 specially-designed President’s Challenge bears for charity.

President’s Challenge 2010
In our continuing effort to support President’s Challenge, Victoria School have embarked on a school-wide approach where students have to come up with a proposal of a fund raising project. Sharing of the best proposals from each class will be held at the cohort level and the highest number of votes by the cohort will determine the selected project proposals, out of which the best 4 will be chosen. Finally, a panel of judges will decide the implementation of the most feasible project from the selected proposals.
